Resolution No. 24-05-01 Discussion and vote on Certified recalls


Resolution No. 24-05-02 Sponsored by the Cranston School Committee 


Whereas,  a state-wide juried art competition was sponsored by the Rhode Island Art Education Association and Rhode Island College, on March 9, 2024.


Whereas, on March 11, 2024, the Cranston secondary art teachers were notified that their students had been awarded Art Anchor Awards and Best in Category awards in various visual arts media.


Whereas, Cranston secondary participating students received 21 awards overall, the awards for any school district in Rhode Island.


Whereas, the students had been awarded Art Anchor and Best in Category Awards.


Be it RESOLVED, that the following students and their teachers, be formally congratulated by the Cranston School Committee for this outstanding honor.


CRANSTON HIGH SCHOOL EAST: Art Anchor Awards: Sittny Montufar in Ceramics, Alissa Gonzalez-Silvestre in Illustration, Helena Fisher in Fashion & Accessories, Ta'Layla Cole and Victoria Robles in Drawing.


CRANSTON HIGH SCHOOL WEST: Art Anchor Awards: Alexandra Barragan-Tovar and Kelly Picozzi in Mixed Media, Jazymne Schwartz, Sophia Gomes, Ella Thompson and Katherine Kue in Drawing, Nathaniel Dixon and Mya Pagliarini in Sculpture, Peter Vachon and Zachary Leone in Painting, Olivia Case in Graphic Design, Peter Vachon in Painting (Best in Category), Sophia Gomes in Drawing (Best in Category), Sophia Zhu in Sculpture (Best in Category).

Resolution No. 24-05-03 Sponsored by the Cranston School Committee 


WHEREAS, the Cranston Combined Percussion Ensemble and their 2024 Production, “Chaos Order” are 

the (NESBA) New England Scholastic Band Association Champions and were semi finalist in the WGI 

World Championship;


AND WHEREAS, this group of young musicians worked hard this year to win the NESBA New England Percussion Scholastic A Championship on April 7, 2024, with a score of 92.655;


AND FURTHER WHEREAS, they traveled to Dayton Ohio for the WGI World Percussion Championship and made it to the semifinals, finishing with a national ranking of 20th in the country;


BE IT RESOLVED, that these members were dedicated to their mission of improving each week and have 

made all of Cranston Proud;

Be it RESOLVED, that the Cranston School Committee also wishes to recognize the hard work and dedication of their Director, Gregory Arsenault, and staff, Greyson Boudreau (CHSE alumnus), Dylan Bukaweski, Simon Ferreira, Jordan Kaiser, Samantha Hackenson, Jon Munroe, Jameson Ward, Dr. Anthony Torelli


Be it further RESOLVED, that these students and their teachers be presented with a copy of this Resolution signed by the members of the Cranston School Committee.



Resolution No. 24-05-04 Sponsored by the Cranston School Committee 

        

Whereas, Maya Jiminez is the Captain of the Cranston High School East Girls Basketball Team;


Whereas, Maya Jiminez scored her 1,000 career point on January 31, 2024 with 3:43 left in the third quarter;


Whereas, Maya Jiminez finished her career at Cranston High School East with 1,048 points;


Further Whereas, Maya Jiminez in 2021-2022 made 1st Team Division II B, in 2022-2023 made 1st Team Division II B, and 2nd Team Division II All Class, in 2023-2024 made 2nd Team Division II All Class and, 1st Team Division II; 


Be it Resolved, that Maya Jiminez be congratulated for her hard work and dedication to the sport of basketball by the Cranston School Committee; and


Let it be further Resolved, that Maya Jiminez be presented with a copy of this Resolution signed by the 

members of the Cranston School Committee.



Resolution No. 24-05-05 Sponsored by the Cranston School Committee 


WHEREAS, the following athletes have been recognized for outstanding individual achievement in interscholastic athletics;


And Whereas, these individuals from Cranston High School West have been recognized by the Providence Journal and the  Rhode Island High School Coaches Association as part of the Winter Athletes All-State Team both on First and Second Teams;


And WHEREAS, the Cranston School Committee would like to recognize by sport and by athlete these accomplished student athletes:


Cranston High School West:  Quiana Pezza, 1st Team, All State Girls Indoor Track; Sofia Nardelli, 1st Team, 

Girls Hockey; Maia Riccio, 2nd Team, Girls Basketball;  Andrew Alchihed, 2nd Team, Boys Wrestling;   

Ailani Sutherland, 2nd Team, Girls Indoor Track; Alonso Parker-Sharpe, 2nd Team, Boys Indoor Track;


Be it RESOLVED, that these students be congratulated by the Cranston School Committee for their outstanding performances in their various sports. 


Be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the student athletes be presented with a copy of this resolution signed by the members of the Cranston School Committee.



Business


Resolution No. 24-05-06 BE IT RESOLVED, that at the recommendation of the Superintendent, the purchase of Physical Education Uniforms for the Middle Schools in the amount of $28,707.85 for shirts and shorts be awarded to Coastal Enterprises.

Resolution No. 24-05-07 BE IT RESOLVED, that at the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Food Service Management Company (FSMC) contract be renewed for the Period 2024 – 2025.  The contract is in its final renewable period (this is year five of five (5) annual renewal periods) to ARAMARK pursuant to the terms and conditions of the renewal contract.


Resolution No. 24-05-08 BE IT RESOLVED, that the photography services to be provided to the School District be awarded to Lifetouch Photography.  The photo package pricing will include a 20% commission to be given back to each school for the betterment of the student body.  The term of the contract is for a 3-year period effective immediately through June 30, 2027. 



Policy and Programs


Resolution No. 24-05-09                     BE IT RESOLVED, that at the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following field trip(s)/conference(s) of long duration be authorized:

Aimee Duarte, Ryan Ingerowski, Anthony Votto, and 13 students from CACTC travel to Atlanta, GA from June 23, 2024 through June 29, 2024 to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference. Student Fundraising will offset the student costs.

 

Resolution No. 24-05-10 BE IT RESOLVED, that at the recommendation of the Superintendent, the following Conferences/Field Trips of Long Duration be authorized:

Bryan Byerlee, Principal of Garden City Elementary to travel to Washington, D.C. from July 9 - July 11, 2024 to attend the US Dept. of Ed Green Ribbon Schools Celebration week. Funding source for this trip by person requesting the conference.

School Committee members who are unable to attend this meeting are asked to notify the Chairperson in advance. Interested persons and the public at large, upon advance notice, will be given a fair opportunity to be heard at said meeting on the items proposed on the agenda. Individuals requesting interpreter services for the hearing impaired must notify the Superintendent’s Office at 270-8170 72 hours in advance of the hearing date. Any changes in the agenda pursuant to RIGL 42-46-6(e) will be posted on the school district’s website at www.cpsed.net Cranston Public Schools’ administration building, 845 Park Ave., Cranston, RI; and Cranston City Hall, 869 Park Ave., Cranston, RI and will be electronically filed with the Secretary of State at least forty-eight hours (48) in advance of the meeting.
