We encourage all students and staff to use the Hugh B. Bain Middle School Library. Our library strives to support the school curriculum and to provide enjoyable reading materials for students. In doing so, we attempt to provide access to up-to-date information resources at a variety of reading levels. The library collection includes fiction, nonfiction, biographies, audio books, periodicals, and reference items. We also have several computers with online capabilities. Please respect other library users and follow the rules and procedures below. Thanks for your cooperation. We hope you will visit the Bain Library often!

The Bain Library provides...
Instruction and assistance in the use of library materials and information
Help in finding information for assignments
Assistance in finding information relating to personal interests
Informational and recreational books and materials

All items must be checked out before being taken out of the library.
Regular book checkout period is four weeks.
Students may have a total of four items checked out at a time
There is a $.10 fee per item per day for overdue materials
All lost items must be paid for

Use a quiet voice
Do not disturb people who are studying
Do not bring candy, gum, food, or drinks into the library
Walk in the library; No running allowed

The Bain Library opens at 7:55 AM every school day. The library is often open after school until 3:30 PM. Students can check the signs posted by the library door for to see if the library will be open after school on any given day..
During the school day, students may visit the library individually (with teacher permission), in small groups, or as a class. The library is open to all Bain students after school.
Period One library use: Teachers may sign up to bring their students to the library during Period One. Special circumstances should be addressed on a per pupil basis. Please do not send students to the library during Period One unless you have arranged it with the librarian before hand.

Mrs. Heidi Blais is Bain’s Library
Media Specialist. She has known that she wanted to be a librarian since she
was in second grade, and has worked in libraries since the age of eleven.
She received a MA degree in Library Science with a concentration in school
library media from U.R.I. Mrs. Blais likes reading fiction. She loves
the Harry Potter books and also enjoys reading realistic fiction and
historical fiction.
Outside of the library, Mrs. Blais enjoys playing the Irish penny whistle and bodhran (Irish drum). She also enjoys gardening, reading, scrapbooking, and sewing. Mrs. Blais loves being outside and enjoys going for walks with her husband and daughters. |

Mrs. Joan Prior is Bain’s library
secretary. She enjoys children and loves working in the library. Mrs. Prior
likes to read books about Rhode Island’s history. She also likes looking at
craft books.
Outside of the library, Mrs. Prior enjoys gardening, traveling, and sewing. She is a British sports car enthusiast, and loves back-roading in her 1976 MGB. |
