2008 Scholarships
Lewis Scholarship - The RISPCA Lewis Scholarship recognizes the
efforts of graduating seniors who have made significant contributions
toward the betterment of life for animals.
Criteria: Must be graduating senior who is a RI resident. Applied to
at least one four-year accredited college or university, overall B average.
Demonstrate significant contribution to animal welfare. Must demonstrate
overcoming difficulty, hardship, discrimination, etc
Amount: $1,000.00
Deadline: April 1st

AXA Foundation - Are students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate
drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have
respect for self, family and community.
Amount: $10,000.00 (Guaranteed to one Rhode Island Student)
$15,000.00 to 10 national recipients

William H. & Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars Programs-Must
be interested in attending Washington University in St. Louis. Candidates
who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as
academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous
academic curriculum.
Amount: Full and partial scholarships.

2009 Gates Millennium Scholars - Must be African America, American
Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.
GPA 3.30. Must be full-time college student in the fall. Demonstrated
leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular
or other activities. Must meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

Horatio Alger Scholarship - Seeks to assist students who have demonstrated
integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character,
financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college
education and a desire to contribute to society.
Criteria: Critical financial need, preferably, $50,000 or lower adjusted
gross income per family. Involvement in co-curricular and community
service activities.
Minimum GPA 2.0
Amount: $2,500.00 to $20,000.00

Skidmore
College - Filene Scholarship Competition- The competition is open to
high school seniors specifically interested in pursuing a liberal arts
education at Skidmore. Eligible students must meet the admissions criteria
for admissions to Skidmore, a highly selective institution that enjoys
a particularly rich tradition in music.
Filene Scholars need not major in music. However, they must continue
to develop their skills through private instruction in the Music Department
each semester and participate in department ensembles each semester
as determined by the department chair.
Amount: $40,000 ($10,000 each year)
Deadline: Preliminary Round: January 15, 2009
Final Round: April 4, 2009

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation - Scholars are accepted based upon
academic achievement, their capacity to lead, and their hours of dedicated
community service.
Amount: 50 scholarships for $20,000.00

Elks National Foundation - 2009 Most Valuable Student Scholarship
- Any high school senior who is a US citizen is eligible. Male and female
compete separately for identical awards. Directions for the application
must be followed exactly as stated or you will not receive points for
certain parts of the application.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship Award - Demonstrates
entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while
in high school
To qualify:
Graduate high school in the Spring of 2009
Attend a 4 year college within the 50 states
Own and operate a genuine business, non-profits are eligible
Have at least one paid employee
Amount: up to $10,000 per academic year for 4 years to any US college
**Awards are based solely on demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit

Burger King Scholars Program -- May be used for education expenses,
such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or
post-secondary vocational/technical school.
Criteria:
Must be a high school senior and a US resident
2.5 GPA or higher
Work part-time and average of 15 hours per week or 40 weeks per year
Actively involved in community service activities
Demonstrate financial need
Amount: $1,000

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship - offers a renewable 4
year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic
excellence, a commitment to serving others in school, the community
or at home, and a strong work ethic. Awards are limited to residents
of New England State
