Dear Parents:

Welcome to a new year at Eden Park Elementary School!  I am very excited to meet you and your children.  I am the new Principal of Eden Park.  The teachers and students are wonderful-it truly is a “family of learners”.

One of our goals this year is for all students to participate in “monitored, self- sustained reading.”  Teachers will be providing time during the school day for students to read independently a book of their choice.  Please encourage your child to read for twenty minutes or more daily this summer.  This helps to establish a routine that includes reading.  An incentive may be to stay up 20-30 minutes past bedtime if your child is going to use the time to read silently or read to you!

I know many of you have been actively involved in the school community. Your involvement in the educational community is crucial to the success of all of our children.  I continue to welcome you to work closely with the faculty, staff, students and me.  If you are new to the Eden Park community, please look for ways to be involved in your child’s school experience.  Please join us at our first PTO meeting.

We need you in order for all our students to achieve at high levels and to continue the academic success that Eden Park students have attained.  And of course let’s have fun!

Here are some important reminders as we begin our journey together:

*       The safety and well being of your child is our first priority.  All visitors must report to the office for a visitor’s badge.  The badge must be worn at all times while a visitor is in the building.

*       PTO first meeting is Tuesday, September 16, 2008.  This will include a meet and greet of the Principal.  We will set the remainder of the PTO calendar for the year at this first meeting.  All are welcome!

I will be here everyday from August 13th.  You are welcome to drop in if you have any questions or concerns prior to the first day of school.  I am looking forward to an exciting year with all of you!
