Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to another exciting year of learning at Edgewood Highland.  Our staff has been busy attending workshops and sprucing up classrooms. Some of the workshops included "School wide Evaluation of Our Title One Program, Family Involvement-School Compact, Technology as a tool to Improve Instruction,  Destiny World Book on Line, and Review of SmartBoard use in the Classroom.  Our professional development will continue through out the year with workshops for math, literacy and technology

This year, throughout the district, we are continuing to ask  teachers and administrators to shift the focus from teaching to learning.  In other words, how do we learn best.  The success of any new learning endeavor is when teachers and students both realize we are learning together everyday.

In our effort to have better communication between home and school, we ask parents to please give us an email address so that we can add you to the family list serve.  If you do not have a computer, notices will still be sent home.

The staff completed a very extensive self study which we will use to prepare ourselves for our SALT visit  the week of March 10-14. Our PTO/Family involvement Committee is now part of our School Improvement process and they have aligned all their activities to our school improvement plan.  We are very excited  about showing how much we have grown from our last SALT visit in 2000/2001.

The 2006/2007 NECAP testing has distinguished  Edgewood  as a high performing school.  We met all our target goals and all of our students are making progress.  Therefore to maintain this status,  we will continue our focus in both math and writing.    We  also will continue to work on  Science. We want to emphasize an inquiry base approach in Science. Our students must be able to pose questions and learn how to solve problems through experimentation, much like scientists do everyday.  We welcome the challenge!

Parents we ask you to become involved by attending our PTO/Family Involvement Meetings. Attend all our literacy events and keep in contact with your child's teacher.
