SO MUCH TO LEARN, SO LITTLE TIME!

We’ve been learning so many new

things this quarter!

Reading & Writing

We have been reading great nonfiction books in our guided reading groups this quarter!  We’re improving our nonfiction reading skills and learning lots of interesting facts!

Did you know facts can be tasty?

That’s right, we’re collecting

‘FRENCH  FRY  FACTS’!

Our class is also working on report writing, poetry, friendly letters, descriptive writing, grammar lessons, spelling activities, self-selected reading and notebook response, nightly reading and soooo much more!

Math

We have learned this year that math can be very fun!  As we continue to work toward mastery of our multiplication facts, we are also learning about

‘Fair Shares’, an Investigations unit focused on fractions.  Other math concepts we continue to work on are problem solving, measurement,

mental math, finding perimeter & area,

addition & subtraction of larger numbers, working with money and decimals, …

Science & Social Studies

Wow!  We are studying some awesome topics this quarter for science and social studies!

Our science work is focused on FORCES, ENERGY, MATTER & MACHINES.  Learning about states of matter like liquids, solids and gases is very cool!  We’re also working on a special ‘race car’ project and doing great science experiments, like making slime!

For social studies this quarter our focus is on our nation!  We’re discovering ‘HOW’ we became the United States of America and we’re learning about our nations capitol, too!  Our class is also reading a wonderful book entitled Oh, Say Can You See!

It’s helping us learn even more stuff about our country and it’s written just for kids, we can’t wait for read aloud time each day!

Technology

Our ‘PowerPoint’ presentations on Planets in the Solar System are almost finished!  We’re really excited and we can’t wait to show off our hard work to our parents!

We’ve also started working on our next topic, SHARKS!

We continue to use the computers in our classroom for special reading centers, assignment work, educational games and research & collecting data.
