6: Life Skills
In this course, you will learn how to strengthen
your self-esteem, develop tools to effectively communicate, and also
make informed decisions. You will also be able to identify and create
healthy eating plans for yourself and practice the basics of hand sewing.
Grade 7: Textiles Arts
In this course, you will learn about fibers and fabrics,
and how theyare vital parts of everyday life. You will also have the opportunity
to create a unique pizza frisbee of yourown design, using both machine
and hand sewing techniques.
Grade 7: Family Studies
In this course, you will learn about the importance
of family life and it's role in today's society. Also covered are topics
such as goal setting, regional food and recipes, and food safety. Child
care is also studied; using a project focusing on creating a toy for children..
Grade 8: Consumer Education
How many times have you told the adults you live with
to "Get a Life!!".Well, guess what....They already have a life!!
You are the one who needsto get one. Think about it. You live in their
home, eat their food, beg for their money, and some day will drive their
car (or one they buy for you).You need to start thinking about your own
life..the one you need to create for yourself. The one in which you have
the freedom to make your own money, live where you want, buy whatever
you want.Through this course, you will be able to help yourself create
your own life, from top to bottom. Let's figure out what really matters
to you and finda way to make it happen. Be prepared to think critically,
and "outside the box."Your school experience won't be as valuable
if you cannot apply what you learn to the "real world."
Grade 8: Foods and Nutrition
In this course, you will learn about the importance
of nutrition, food safety and sanitation. You will experience a hands-on
approach to measuring, foodpreparation, and meal planning. Also, projects
focus on service learning and how we can provide information and products
to the community.
