Mr. Blackburn
Mathematics
Grade 7
2007-08

Overview: There are four major areas of math that will be explore:

Grading: Each quarterly grade is determined in the following manner:

* Please note that Tests count as 2 Quiz grades. This is the standard grading procedure for the entire Mathematics Department at Western Hills. There will be approximately 1 Quiz/ every 1-2 weeks and 1 Test/ every 4-6 weeks.

Homework: Homework will generally be assigned 3-4 times /week. Students are expected to complete each homework assignment thoroughly and entirely. All homework assignments are expected to be completed in pencil. Please see the attached Homework Rubric for more details.

Make-Ups: Students are expected to makeup all homework assignments, quizzes, and tests they miss due to an absence. Furthermore, students are expected to copy any notes they missed from a fellow classmate. Any student who is absent must speak to Mr. Blackburn upon their return to school. Failure to do so will result in a zero.

Materials: Students are expected to bring all of the following materials to every class:

Every student will be assigned a textbook. This textbook must be covered at all times. Possession of an uncovered textbook will result in detention and/or a call to the student's parents.

Extra Help: Extra help will be available to all students on a regular basis. It is the student's responsibility to seek extra help. Mr. Blackburn is generally available to stay after school 4-5 nights/ week to work with students in small groups or one-on-ones. Under no circumstances will extra credit be assigned; extra help is the students' opportunity to raise their grades and attain a better understanding of the math.

Discipline: Students who misbehave will be dealt with in the following manner:

Room 104

The following topics are covered in the seventh grade science curriculum:

Students will use the Prentiss Hall text as their main source of information. In addition to the textbook, students will use the newspaper, library resources and the Internet.

Homework is given to reinforce concepts taught in class. Lab reports and special projects will be assigned throughout the year to encourage critical thinking skills and to further develop the concepts introduced in class. There may not be homework every night, but every student is encouraged to review the notes from the day's lesson, pursue research on current projects that we may be working on or working on makeup work due to an absence. NO ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED LATE, UNLESS A STUDENT HAS BEEN ABSENT. Students are responsible for getting the class work, notes, and scheduling make-ups for exams should they be absent. The assignments are due within a couple of days upon return from the absence. (Should the student be out for an extended period due to an illness, please try to arrange for someone to pick up his or her work.)

Quizzes can be given at any time. Four to five days notice will be given for tests. Being absent the day before a test does not excuse you from the test since you have been given advance notice. If you need help, do not wait until the day before the test to ask for help!
