Western Hills Middle School 6th Grade Orchestra
Western Hills Middle School 6th Grade Orchestra
Course Expectations
Welcome to the middle school orchestra! This letter is intended to outline
your responsibilities as a member of the school orchestra.
The schedule:
Each student will have 2 ensemble rehearsals per week. Those occur every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:34 - 2:20 pm.
Each student will also have 1 group lesson per week. This is scheduled as a regular class, as are the rehearsals, and occurs at different times depending on which instrument you take.
You are responsible for having your instrument in school 3-4 times per week.
(Except cellos and bass since there are school instruments to use in school
though
you should have an instrument at home to practice!)
Please put your name on your instrument and folder!
Each morning you are to bring your instrument and music to store back stage.
Classes will be held in the auditorium.
Music:
You should bring your Essential Elements book 2 to class. I will be giving
you ensemble music to put in your folder. This music must be returned after
we perform it so please do not destroy it or lose it.
Concerts:
We will perform at least 2 school concerts. One will be in December and
the other sometime in May or June. You are required to participate in these
concerts. There will also be an after school rehearsal which you are required
to attend. You will be given the rehearsal and concert schedule within the week.
Our orchestra functions like a team and each musician depends on the other musicians.
Concerts are the culmination of many weeks of hard work and should provide a
sense of satisfaction and joy for us all. You will be graded for this class
and the concert serves as a major test.
How to get an "A"
1. Bring your instrument and music to class.
2. Practice and learn all your assigned music.
3. Be a cooperative member of the orchestra.
4. Work hard to do your best! Everyone learns at different rates. You should
not compare yourself to anyone else but should strive to be the best musician
you can be!
5. Participate in all school concerts.
Please show this to a parent or guardian and have them sign it along with your
signature to show that you have read this and understand your responsibilities
as a member of the orchestra and return it to me. Thanks! I am looking forward
to lots of fun making music this year! Parents: If you have any questions or
comments please call me at the middle school (270-8030) and I will return your
call.
