Goals

In addition, we have one teacher assistants to help with building needs such as cafeteria duty and bus duty. As our population increases these wonderful people will help to insure the safety of all of our students.

At WHMS it is our belief that all children should begin their Middle School years being taught in the Regular Education Classroom, with the support of our Special Education Staff. All members of our Staff spend as much of their time as possible in the regular education setting. By doing this they meet not only the needs of the Students with Special needs, but also the needs of many of the Regular Education Students. Since we went to the Middle School model we have been successful with this Special Education Model.

The reasons for our success are many. We have parents, School and Central Office administrators, and Community support. In addition our Regular and Special Education teachers have made inclusion a priority. Many people have committed the time and personnel necessary for the success of such an undertaking. Without the support of so many we would not meet with this high level of success.

If you have any questions about our program or your children please contact your child's case manager. They will be happy to assist you.

This year we were recognized by the magazine, "LD online" as a Best Practices School for our full inclusion model. In addition they have asked if they could send a team up from their headquarters in Washington DC to interview and do a feature story on our teachers in the fall. As a result of this positive publicity we have had many parents can and come to WHMS to learn more about our program.

Parents

At WHMS we actively encourage parental involvement. In addition to asking you to attend your child's annual IEP meeting, we will be sending home quarterly progress reports. These differ from the report cards in that they measure your child's progress towards their specific IEP goals.

As an IEP team member we need your input for our meetings. Prior to the IEP meeting, a worksheet titled "Preparing for your child's IEP meeting" will be sent to you. (see link on this page) Please bring this completed sheet with you.
