Grade 6:
Exploring Technology
This is an introductory course to the
area of technology. It has been designed to give students a broad overview
of the technological areas of production, transportation, and
construction. The course begins with a study of the history of
technological innovations helping students to become familiarized with
technology and the role it plays in their daily lives. Students engage in
hands-on experience in each of the three areas previously mentioned. As a
culminating activity students are given the opportunity to investigate the
impacts of technology in society and speculate about the technological advances
of the future.
Introduction to Computers
Students become familiar with the
important aspects of how to use a computer. Students will identify the
importance of, and develop introductory skills in computers. Students use
Microsoft Windows and related applications exposing them to word processing,
desktop publishing and telecommunications.
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
Through instruction and
activities in design, problem solving and computer aided drafting, students will
become familiar with the important aspects of design and CAD. Students
will identify the importance of, and develop introductory skills in, design and
drafting.
Grade 7:
Production Technology
This Course is designed to initiate
the student to the manufacturing process of a product from conception to
finished product. It will introduce the student to terms and practices in
manufacturing a product using practical hands-on experience. Working in
groups, the students will gain practical experience in problem solving skills

instruction and activities students will become familiar with the important
aspects of desktop publishing including exposure to Microsoft Publisher, and
Microsoft Office applications. Utilization of design concepts, problem
solving and creative thinking abilities are emphasized.
Grade 8:
Computer Aided Research Systems (CARS)
This course
provides students with the knowledge and skills needed in computer simulated
design, as well as practical application in designing and building. The
combination of computers and hands-on building provides students with the
opportunity to better understand the integration of the various component
systems.
Telecommunications
Students gain experience using the
Internet to develop introductory skills in telecommunications. Students
gain understanding of electronic communications by sending, receiving and
maintaining an e-mail account. In addition to their e-mail activity,
students also develop on-line experience by using the World Wide Web to search
