What is handwriting?
Learning how to write is an important skill to develop. It requires control and manipulation within a designated space. Students can practice when they are younger by moving their arms in the air, drawing in sand, or with shaving cream by making shapes, letters, or numbers. It’s important for students to understand that we write left to right and top to bottom.

It’s important for students to understand that we write left to right and top to bottom.
When students learn to write, we teach the sounds and the letters that represent the sound through print. Learning to form these shapes is important for early spelling and writing skills. We encourage students to make shapes - squiggles, lines, and circles. From these shapes, students will develop their letter shapes.
